Tracking Behavioral Construct Use through Citations: A Relation Extraction Approach
نویسندگان
چکیده
During the past few decades, social and behavioral sciences experienced a proliferation of vibrant research communities, leading to a rapid accumulation of theories, articles, and constructs (Lee et al. 2004; Straker 2008). Many efforts have been dedicated to exploration and integration of this large network of behavioral research data. For example, the inter-nomological network, a construct search engine, improves retrieval of relevant constructs in the behavioral sciences. It allows researchers to search and create their own hierarchies of over 70,000 constructs manually collected by a large team of research assistants (Larsen and Hovorka 2012; Larsen et al. 2010). Furthermore, by using state-of-art information extraction (IE) techniques, Li and Larsen (2011; 2012) developed the automated nomological network extraction (ANNE) IE tool which automatically extracts hypotheses, constructs, and nomological networks from behavioral articles. This tool has the potential to significantly ease the time and labor limitations of INN. Additionally, by visualizing a large-scale nomological net which connected a number of quantitative theories published in two leading journals in the information systems field, Hovorka and Larsen (2012) conducted a meta-theoretic analysis to locate and identify theory domains, which demonstrates a potential pathway to integration and extension of theories within and across disciplines.

A Study of Lexical Distribution in Citation Contexts through the IMRaD Standard
In this paper we present a large-scale approach for the extraction of verbs in reference contexts. We analyze citation contexts in relation with the IMRaD structure of scientific articles and use rank correlation analysis to characterize the distances between the section types. The results show strong differences in the verb frequencies around citations between the sections in the IMRaD structu...
متن کاملCitation Analysis of Iranian Journal of Basic Medical Sciences in ISI Web of Knowledge, Scopus, and Google Scholar
Objective(s): Citation tracking is an important method to analyze the scientific impact of journal articles and can be done through Scopus (SC), Google Scholar (GS), or ISI web of knowledge (WOS). In the current study, we analyzed the citations to 2011-2012 articles of Iranian Journal of Basic Medical Sciences (IJBMS) in these three resources. Material and Methods: The rel...
متن کاملWeak Links and Strong Meaning: The Complex Phenomenon of Negational Citations
The latest advances in research in the field of bibliometrics take into consideration in-text references. The purpose of this paper is to focus on citation contexts that express negational citations and which are relatively rare in articles. Our goal is to automate the extraction of negational citation contexts and to put them in relation to positions in the text progression of articles. After ...
متن کاملRelation Extraction with Relation Topics
This paper describes a novel approach to the semantic relation detection problem. Instead of relying only on the training instances for a new relation, we leverage the knowledge learned from previously trained relation detectors. Specifically, we detect a new semantic relation by projecting the new relation’s training instances onto a lower dimension topic space constructed from existing relati...
متن کاملA New Method for Improving Computational Cost of Open Information Extraction Systems Using Log-Linear Model
Information extraction (IE) is a process of automatically providing a structured representation from an unstructured or semi-structured text. It is a long-standing challenge in natural language processing (NLP) which has been intensified by the increased volume of information and heterogeneity, and non-structured form of it. One of the core information extraction tasks is relation extraction wh...
